Mark Schumacher originally joined Howland Capital in 2002 as a Portfolio Manager before moving to Denver in 2007 for family reasons. In Denver, he established and led Third Day Capital, a successful Registered Investment Adviser and now we warmly welcome him back to Howland Capital. Mark’s background as both an analyst and globally diversified Portfolio Manager brings a wealth of experience and insight to our investment research and portfolio management processes.

For Mark, a family’s wealth extends beyond the financial realm to the family’s human and intellectual capital. As such, he works with clients to develop, nurture, and support this important aspect of a comprehensive plan. This often involves working with trustees and trust beneficiaries and guiding clients along their estate planning and philanthropic journeys with an eye towards a family’s multigenerational dimension.

Mark graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He earned his MBA from Boston College Carroll Graduate School of Management. He is a member of the CFA Society in both Boston and Denver.

When he is not managing client portfolios, Mark spends his free time with his wife, two children and two dogs somewhere in the great outdoors. He enjoys camping, hiking, mountain biking, golf, skiing, snowshoeing, and recently took up fly-fishing.
