Cameron was back on the courts this spring for the SquashBusters Derby—and like last year, it was a reminder of why Howland Capital stays committed to this organization.
SquashBusters isn’t just about squash. It’s about a student sitting down with a tutor and working through a challenging subject. It’s about young athletes building discipline, resilience, and the habit of showing up. It’s about pathways opening where they might not have existed before.
Several of us at Howland Capital also recently had the opportunity to participate in SquashBusters’ Career Exploration event, where our team spoke with students about careers in investment and wealth management. Those conversations—the curiosity, the questions, the sense of possibility—reinforced what we’ve long admired about SquashBusters: the work extends far beyond the squash court.
What began in Boston three decades ago has grown into a network of more than 20 similar programs across North America, all operating under the same principle: combine rigorous academics with sport to unlock potential. According to SquashBusters’ published program outcomes, a high percentage of program participants enroll in college, and many secure employment or enter graduate school. We’re grateful for organizations like SquashBusters that invest in young people with intention and care. That’s impact that lasts.
